Shooting Range Information

Rifle, Pistol & Archery Range.

We have a new Archery set up out at the Rifle, Pistol & Archery Range. You do need to be a Hodag Sports Club member with a gate key to access it. It is available for use any time there isn’t a match in Cowboy Town. NO Guns may be used to shoot at the targets. NO broadheads, only field points.

The Hodag Sports Club Rifle, Pistol & Archery Range is a 400+ acre shooting facility located at 5896 Sports Club Rd, Rhinelander. From Highway 8 West, turn south on South River Road at the United Rental Center; about a mile west of Rhinelander. On South River Road, continue about a mile south to the sign for Sports Club Rd and the Rifle Range sign. Follow Sports Club Road all the way to the end of the road. The Range has an orange gate at the entrance. The Rifle/Pistol Range is Members Only with-guest passes available for $10 per day, but you must be with a member. Members are allowed to use the range unless there is a sponsoring organization using the range.

The range has five separate shooting bays. The south bay is a 100/200 yard range for rifle use only. No shotguns are allowed because they destroy our target backers. The center bay is a 50 yard range with target holders at 50 ft, 25 yards and 50 yards that can be used for rifles or handguns. The north bay is also a 50 yard range set up for handgun and law enforcement training.

The rifle range has added a 400 yard range that you can drive to change your targets. The range is located just south of Cowboy Town. We have also been plowing out to the 300 yard backstop in the winter. We have also added 4 competition and training ranges.

The cowboy town range has two shooting bays set up specifically for Cowboy Action and Wild Bunch shooting. The cowboy range is used for organized competition only. Turkey Hunters– No Shotguns at the Hodag Sports Club Rifle/Pistol Range. They can be patterned ONLY using the patterning board at the Hodag Sports Club Shotgun Range at 4480 County Rd C ..

Rifle, Pistol & Archery Range Use:

The range is **members only**, and members must purchase a **$5 gate key** to access and use the range.

There are a few exceptions to this:

* Members may purchase a **day pass** and bring a guest- see rules below.

* We host a limited number of **competition shoots** that are open to non-members.

* We also offer **special sight-in days with a $10 day pass** ONLY the week before Gun Deer Season in November- we share these dates on Facebook and emails.

Non-Member Day Pass – $10.00

The following rules apply when purchasing a Non-Member Day Pass:

The $10.00 Day Pass must be purchased in person by an adult HSC member. Day Passes may not be purchased by minors.

The HSC member must complete the Day Pass card in its entirety.

The actual date of use must be written on the Day Pass card at the time of purchase.

The HSC member must retain the pass stub as proof of purchase and present it at the range if requested.

The HSC member assumes full responsibility for the guest and must accompany the guest while at the range.

Current Hodag Sports Club (HSC) members, their Day Pass guests, and active military personnel are
allowed to use the range. HSC will allow members of other sports organizations to use the range for
tournaments, training and matches if the event is approved by the HSC management.
The following rules are rules specific to this range for general range use. All general safety rules on gun
handling and loading as shown in the general rules posted at the range also apply. All approved
organizations using the ranges must follow safety rules specific to their sport, for example, USPSA, SASS
3-Gun and archery. Organizations using the range for training and testing must follow their organization
rules.

IN ORDER TO HAVE A SAFE AND CLEAN RANGE, THE FOLLOWING RULES MUST BE
FOLLOWED AT ALL TIMES

Range Safety Flags

1. Flag placed ACROSS DOORWAY that permits entry down range
on each range means the range is SAFE. You can GO DOWN
RANGE to change targets. Be aware of ALL PEOPLE DOWN
RANGE.
2. ALL FIREARMS must be in gun racks, and no one is allowed to
handle any firearms when range flag Is ACROSS DOORWAY..
3. Flag NOT ACROSS DOORWAY that permits entry down range
means range is HOT and you can SHOOT

Shooting Bench Rules

4. Shoot only from the shooting benches provided.
5. Shooting from down range (west) of the benches is PROHIBITED.

Target Use

6. Shoot ONLY at paper targets placed on the HSC provided target
holders.
7. Explosive targets are PROHIBITED on this range.
8. Metal targets are PROHIBITED unless they are provided or
approved by the HSC.
9. Bottles, cans, and clay pigeons are PROHIBITED targets.
10. ABSOLUTELY NO firing above the berm or shooting at rocks or
other items placed on the berm.

Prohibited Firearms

11. Fully automatic weapons or multiple bursts are PROHIBITED.
12. 50 cal BMG firearms are PROHIBITED.
13. No shotguns with fine shot are allowed on the ranges
14. Absolutely no firing above the berm.
15. Sighting in shotguns with slugs is PERMITTED.

Prohibited Ammunition

16. Tracer ammunition is PROHIBITED.
17. Steel core ammunition is PROHIBITED.

Firearm Range Use

18. The 100/200 yard range is for rifle and pistol.100 & 200 yard targets
only
19. The 50 yard range is for rifle and pistol. 50-foot, 25 yard and 50-yard
targets only.
20. The 12 yard & adjustable target range is for rifle and pistol – Use target
frames provided.
21. The 400-yard range is for long range competition, training and sighting-
in
22. The range north of the 400 yard range is for archery and SASS use

Archery Rules

23. Always prioritize safety. Follow national archery organization safety
rules
24. Ensure nobody is downrange. Only draw and shoot when the range
is clear. Wait for the “clear” signal before retrieving arrows.
25. If there’s an arrow on the bow, it must be pointed downrange. If an
arrow falls over the line, leave it there.
26. Don’t shoot broadheads or razor tips
27. Shoot only at the targets provided

Gate & Garbage Rules

28. The gate is to be closed and locked after entering or leaving.
29. Do not park in front of the gate.
30. After using the range, YOU are responsible for picking up all your brass
and garbage. Place the used brass in the containers provided. Pick up
all rimfire brass or steel brass and put it in the garbage.

With the use of the key to the range you accept the responsibility of maintaining a safe and clean
range.
ANYONE DISREGARDING ANY OF THESE RULES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO USE THE RANGE –
AND – THEY WILL FORFEIT THEIR MEMBERSHIP!! NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN.RSHIP!!
